wpe17.gif (23419 bytes)Count on Butterfly School for winter fun.  We have updated our counting Activity Sheets to coordinate with the first fifteen days of February!  If you did a few from this series in January, you can repeat them, or print some replacement sheets from our alphabet series.

Here are some tips from my kitchen table to yours . . .

bullet

Reinforce the day's featured number throughout the day.  If it is a "four" day, be on the lookout for groups of four -- four legs on your kitchen table, four legs on a cat or dog, four wheels on a car, four sides on a square.

bullet

2 x 2 . . .  2 + 2 . . .  when you can find a clear way to demonstrate that 2 + 2 = 4, tell your favorite children!
bullet

2 fingers + 2 fingers = 4 fingers

bullet

2 cookies + 2 cookies = 4 cookies

bullet

2 books + 2 books = 4 books

2 crayons + 2 crayons = 4 crayons

2 noodles + 2 noodles = 4 noodles

Counting Lucky Stars!
Teacher Tips
from Corinne Steigerwald

We hope you will enjoy counting in February.  If you have done some of these sheets in January, remember that your child will enjoy revisiting something and showing you how much she remembers!

When winter weather keeps you indoors, it is fun to have a simple focus for a day's learning activity.

Keep a calendar handy so you can read "February" each morning.  Spell the word, pointing to each letter.  Sound out each letter for your child.

Mark each day on the calendar.  If you play Butterfly School in the morning, write down one thing you look forward to for the day.  After dinner, write down one thing you all enjoyed!  It's a simple way to keep count of shining hours.

Have fun counting with simple paper shapes.  Cut out colorful hearts or stars.  Write names of special people on each heart -- favorite things on the stars.  Count the shapes out loud and be sure your child gets to hold each one as you count.  Tape them up as your own special way to celebrate the best people and things in your life.  Count them again once they are on the wall.

It is wonderful to take the time to help your children count their lucky stars!
