Butterfly School Winter Exercise Get Sheets

Jump into winter exercise with January's butterfly school.  Each day's Activity Sheet suggests one fun outdoor activity.  To bring the winter fun indoors, here are some tips from my kitchen table to yours . . .

bullet

scoop up a bowl of clean & fresh snow and build a tiny snow sculpture on a waterproof plate or tray!  Raisins make great decorations.

bullet

cut out snow balls from white paper.  Arrange them to make a snow caterpillar, snow people, snow castle & more.

bullet

use your imagination & try the winter sports in this week's Activity Sheets -- pretend to ice skate, gliding across the floor in your socks -- pretend to go cross-country skiing around the living room!

Teacher Tips
from Corinne Steigerwald

Winter is the perfect time to encourage your child's love of reading and storytelling.  When it is cold outside, select or write a great story to read together.

To make reading come alive, try writing your own simple stories!  Select any picture from this week's Activity Sheets and write a very short story about the picture.  Describe what happened next for the caterpillars!

A great resource:  Pictures on the go!  Select pictures from magazines or from your family photographs to keep in an envelope -- take them along when you are going to a doctor's appointment or any place you need to wait.  Use the time to create a story about the picture!

Take the time to read on a winter afternoon and help instill a lifelong love of reading in your child!
