Butterfly School Hearts

Celebrate hearts & love all week long!  The heart shape is so cheerful -- draw it, search for it and make hearts with your own fingers!

From my kitchen table to yours . . . quick tips for great Butterfly School sessions.

  1. Surprise someone special: cut out red hearts & tape them in a place that is easy to see!  Write "I love you!"  or "You are so special!"  or "You are great!"  You might tape them over your child's bed so she sees them first thing in the morning -- or after nap!

  2. Send a specially decorated heart to a friend or relative you don't get to see enough.  Everyone loves to find a colorful art surprise in the mail!

  3. Give a heartfelt thank you to your child for a job well done.  Surprise your child after he completes a special goal (make a bed, tidy up toys, put books back into a basket).  Draw a heart outline for your child to color!  It is great to take out time to appreciate a job well done.

Feeling Special

Teacher Tips
from Corinne Steigerwald

Children seek attention, acceptance and appreciation.  Children depend on their caregivers for signs that they are special.  Every time you express something positive about your child, you help your child feel proud, special and unique.  Focus attention on your child's sense of herself.  Does she know some of the ways that she is special?

As you celebrate the heart this week, take some time to identify the things that are great about your children.  Here are ten things we can never say too often:

  1. You're a great kid!

  2. I like the way you do this . . . (be specific).

  3. You're the kind of kid I like.

  4. Great job!

  5. Good work!

  6. Thank you.

  7. Let's do this again!

  8. I'm happy to see you.

  9. You're fun to be with.

  10. I like working with you.
