Butterfly School Makes a Me Book!

mebook1.gif (20603 bytes)Welcome!  This week's Activity Sheets will help you and your child make a unique "Me" book.  If, like me, you never quite finished the perfect baby book, here is a great way to help your child pick up one thread from the project!  Whatever your child's age, s/he will love to see this in years to come.

Tips from my kitchen table to yours!

We offer eight pages of "Me" book ideas.  Here are some other fun things to try --

  1. Pull out some photographs for your child to add.

  2. Recycle old catalogs by letting your child cut out pictures of things she likes.

  3. Let your child decorate a cover -- use a slightly heavier paper if possible, or the cardboard backs from old pads.

  4. Copy the book as a great gift for a special relative.

  5. Put the pages in plastic sleeves & a three-ring notebook.  It gives you an easy place to add new artwork.

Join us next week for more Butterfly School fun! Until then, enjoy the resources posted here and at www.shininghours.com!

You are ready for the Activity Sheets now; you can print them from here (go to Activity Sheets), or go back to the Butterfly School home page.

Teacher Tips
from Corinne Steigerwald

We all need attention, acceptance and appreciation.  A good way to help your child develop a positive self-image is by making a Butterfly School "Me" book.

A "Me" book is a wonderful way to help your child articulate his preferences.  Make sure to read the book a few times in the next week.  It helps reinforce the idea that you value your child's work!

Interviewing -- When you are on the go, play interview with your child.  Take turns being the interviewer.  Ask questions & listen carefully to your child's answers.  This will give your child the chance to answer, "I'm the kind of kid who likes . . .."

Here are some sample questions:  "What is your favorite street sign?"  "What color clothing do you like the best?"

If you have an audio recorder or video camera, this is a great thing to record.  Your children will enjoy watching it now & in years to come.  If you have two children or more, record them interviewing each other!
